You could know nothing about designer fashion or be the farthest away possible from the front row of any Fashion Week show and still it wouldn’t take much to see why Chanel makeup is absolutely worth the hype. Celebrities, makeup artists and beauty editors all rave over Chanel’s beauty section so often because each piece is a testament to the quality Chanel is known for. In order to really dive into the world of the Parisian brand’s beauty collection, I’m sorting Chanel’s makeup into categories to keep it all straight. First up: lips.
Below, the Chanel lip products that have risen the ranks to become routine regulars on red carpets and in makeup bags the world over.
Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue ($50)
Expect at least one celebrity (but oftentimes many more) on any red carpet to be wearing Chanel’s Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue. (Jennifer Aniston has worn it on multiple red carpets over the past couple of years.) On one end, it’s a high-shine, long-lasting liquid lipstick; on the other, a dewy, ultra-moisturizing gloss.
Rouge Allure ($50)
For a more classic lipstick, you can’t beat Rouge Allure, a luminous, full-coverage lipstick with a satin finish. It blends vitamin E and coconut and castor oils for a richly-pigmented moisturizing formula that looks as luxurious as it feels. It’s currently available in 11 shades from bold blue-reds to the prettiest neutral nudes.
Rouge Coco Baume Satin ($48)
If you paid attention to pop culture at all in the summer of 2023, there was only one lipstick everyone was talking about: Rouge Coco Baume Satin in Pink Delight (shown here). The nourishing tinted balm was worn by Margot Robbie all over the Barbie press tour and it was Sofia Richie Grainge’s wedding lipstick. It’s currently available in nine shades, including Natural Charm, a caramel beige, and Fall For Me, a brown burgundy; two hues I bet you’ll see everywhere this autumn.
Le Crayon Lèvres ($35)
Chanel’s Le Crayon Lèvres lip liner has a creamy texture (thanks to jojoba oil and cotton seed derivatives) and a soft-matte finish. Its 16 shades are made to correspond with Chanel’s lip colors for a seamless lip look.
Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm ($40)
Can you tell Chanel makes really great balms? The Les Beiges stick uses moringa butter and vitamin E to keep lips moisturized and comfortable and gives a sheer amount of radiant color, aka your everyday lip balm, alone or on top of other lipsticks.
31 Le Rouge Satin Lipstick ($195)
What’s a “best of” Chanel lipstick article without 31 Le Rouge Satin Lipstick? Called “the most singular lipstick from the House” by Chanel, its name is inspired by the address 31 rue Cambon, the birthplace of the brand. Each of its 12 shades blends “finely micronized pigments…with sheer mother-of-pearl” for truly radiant and unique lip color. At the 2024 Golden Globes, we counted at least five celebrities (Jennifer Aniston, Ali Wong, Keri Russell, Margot Robbie and Brie Larson) wearing 31 Le Rouge in the color Rouge Beige.
N°1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm ($50)
Take this multiuse pot wherever you go and your face makeup is halfway done. No matter which of the nine shades you use, expect a radiant flush of color from each swipe of N°1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm. Every pot is infused with camellia oil (from the Red Camellia flower) for plump and conditioned skin.
