Cosmetic treatments are, for the most part, driven by features on ourselves we find vexing or would like to alter in some way. Yes, we preach to love ourselves, but if we’re being honest, it’s hard to love every inch at all times. Recently, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) survey inquired which cosmetic concerns people found the most bothersome on themselves, and there were a lot of commonalities.

According to the survey, the concern responders found to be the most bothersome, with 85 percent agreeing, was excess fat on any given part of their body. Skin texture and discoloration concerns were tied with lines and wrinkles around and under the eyes both groups with 78 percent of people dubbing them their biggest critique.

The survey found that people were specifically bothered by excess fat under the chin or neck, noting it to be the most pressing an issue to them. While we’ve seen these complaints in previous years to varying degrees a new concern broke the top five this year—lines, wrinkles and folds in the mid-face, which shows an interesting shift in focus.

Unsurprisingly, ASDS noted that females were generally more bothered by these concerns than men. Furthermore, younger females, aged 25 to 44, were more bothered by their cosmetic concerns than women over 55. Something to look forward to for us women in the lower age group.
