Serena Williams is the latest celebrity to reveal she is using a GLP-1 to support her weight loss journey. The tennis star who has won the Grand Slam and Olympic gold medals many times over recently shared that she’s teamed up with Ro, a telehealth company, as both a patient and an ambassador.
Williams opened up about struggling to shed weight following her pregnancy, no matter how well she was eating and how many hours she was working out. After becoming frustrated with the stagnation, Williams turned to Ro and their GLP-1 offering.
“It was the best thing I did for my body in a very long time. The weight slowly started coming off, and it felt real like my body had the support that it needed,” Williams said in a video. After finding success with Ro, and losing 31 pounds, according to PEOPLE, Williams wants to help normalize the use of the medications and conversations surrounding GLP-1s.
“I trained at the highest level, ate a clean diet, pushed myself, and still, after having kids, my body just wouldn’t respond. I realized it wasn’t about willpower; it was biological. My body needed the GLP-1 and clinical support, “ says Williams. “I’m partnering with Ro because if I needed help as a top athlete doing everything at level 10, I know others are struggling too, and everyone deserves access to the treatment they need. This isn’t a shortcut. It’s healthcare.”
