Pop-culture PSA: There’s less than one week to go until the second season of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. To celebrate the highly-anticipated premiere, Kristen Bell, Justine Lupe, Jackie Tohn and Season 2 guest star Leighton Meester walked the red carpet oozing California cool last night—and we know major details behind the stunning skin and makeup products each actress wore on their big night.
Kristen Bell’s “Super Simple but Classy” Beauty
Kristen Bell (our beloved Joanne) stunned in an asymmetrical spicy red wrap dress, a look makeup artist Simone Almekias-Siegl balanced with a “fresh dewy face and a soft smokey eye.” Bell’s glam began with a five-step skin routine courtesy of plastic surgeon-founded brand, NassifMD. “This skincare line is definitely a new addition to my favorites,” says Almekias-Siegl. “I’m a big fan of skin prep, and believe flawless make up starts with flawless skin.” First, the Detox Pads ($35) to gently exfoliate and smooth texture, then the 3HA Hydrating Facial Mist ($51), Hydroscreen Serum ($55) and Soft Focus Hydrating Day Cream ($55) were applied for a deeply-hydrated, glowing base before makeup.
Next, Almekias-Siegl used an arsenal of Versed products for “super simple but classy” makeup. Take notes because, Versed, a brand famous for their clean, solution-driven skin care and makeup, all retails for under $25.
On Bell’s eyes, Almekias-Siegl mixed shades two shades (Mystic and Poetic) of Sheer Stay Liquid Eyeshadow ($15) on her “crease and edge to create a soft smoke.” Then, the High Points Illuminating Stick ($15) in Baroque “under her brows for a little highlight and on the center of her lid.” For brows, “I brushed on the [Easy Brow] Tinted Brow Gel ($14) in Blonde to enhance her brows and put them in place,” says Almekias-Siegl. To complete the eye makeup Almekias-Siegl used “a few coats” of Day Lash ($15) in Black. “This mascara does not clump!” she raves.
For Bell’s complexion Almekias-Siegl applied the Smooth Skin Face Primer ($17) on Bell’s T-zone only. (“I love keeping her skin looking like skin instead of the matte look,” she notes.) Next, Skin Solution Multi-Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 ($20), a rosacea-accepted skin tint that has sold out three times since it’s debut. Almekias-Siegl calls it “lightweight,” “creamy,” and “buildable.” She adds: “Skin Tint is the perfect texture to get your skin looking fresh and even. It stays put all day. I absolutely love it and the added SPF is a plus.” To enhance Bell’s glow even more, Almekias-Siegl also added a drop of Mood Lighting Glow Drops ($19) in Sheer Golden, followed by Skin Solution Serum Concealer ($15) “to remove any darkness under her eye and cover redness around her nose and chin.”
To complete the look with warmth and color, Bell wore the Warm Dimension Bronzer Stick ($15) in August and Shade Swipe Blush Stick ($15) in Pinch on her cheeks and Bloom on her lips.
Justine Lupe’s “Jane Birkin Cool Girl” Makeup
To match her sparkly mini dress, Justine Lupe (or fan-favorite Morgan) opted to double down on the celebrations, featuring luminous makeup courtesy of MERIT Beauty. “I wanted Justine’s look to embody a Jane Birkin cool girl going to a party vibe,” explains makeup artist Tracey Levy.
The star the show was MERIT’s not-yet-released Solo Shadow Sheen in shade Iris, a soft plum, “for a transparent highlight on her lids.” (Solo Shadow Sheen, a collection of six creamy, pearlescent eyeshadows officially launches on October 22.)
To prep Lupe’s skin, Levy used MERIT’s Great Skin duo: Great Skin Instant Glow Serum ($38) and Great Skin Priming Moisturizer ($38). Next, a layer of The Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen ($38) in shade 22 and The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick ($38) in both Bone and Oak shades. For a golden glow, the editor-loved Bronze Balm Sheer Bronzer ($30) in Seine; for natural pop of color, Flush Balm Cheek Blush ($30) in Bespoke; to accentuate, Day Glow Highlighting Balm ($32) in Cava.
In addition to the aforementioned Solo Shadow Sheen, Levy applied the best-selling Solo Shadow Matte ($24) in Brun, Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara ($26) and Brow 1990 Sheer Gel Pencil ($24) in Dark Brown.
On Lupe’s lips, Levy opted for MERIT’s Signature Lip Liner Sheer Liner ($24) in Coupe and a blend of two Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick shades: Maison and L’Avenue ($26 each).
Jackie Tohn’s Silky-Smooth Skin
Jackie Tohn (our girl Esther) walked the red carpet in a deliciously decadent sheer brown mini dress paired with matching tights, knee-high boots and an elegant toasted makeup look. But above all, makeup artist Mai Quynh “wanted [Tohn’s] skin to glow and look luminous in photos.” Quynh started by prepping Jackie’s skin with the Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Gentle Cleanser ($55), then added a few drops of the Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Firming Serum ($225) and a dime size amount of the Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Barrier Cream ($200). To provide hydration to her neck, Quynh applied the Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Dewy Cream ($200). “It’s a lighter version of the Barrier Cream, which is perfect for the neck area,” Quynh says. Lastly, she finished prepping Tohn’s skin with a few dabs of the Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Eye Cream ($120) around the eye area, using the cooling and de-puffing metal eye applicator.
Leighton Meester’s Full-Body Glow
Actress Leighton Meester (and wife of Nobody Wants This‘ favorite rabbi, Adam Brody) is set to make her debut in season two as Abby, a former schoolmate of Bell’s Joanne. Perhaps in a nod to the drama her character is poised to stir up between Brody’s Noah and Joanne, Meester walked the red carpet in a ombré-style dip-dyed gown of rich, dark tones, sharp slicked back hair and a crimson lip.
Makeup artist Bethany McCarty revealed she was inspired by Meester’s fashion and “pulled from the gown’s deep blue hues for her eyes and the subtle plum notes for her lips, creating a look that felt harmonious.”
Noting “perfect skin is always the foundation of everything,” McCarty prepped Meester’s skin with Bubble Skincare’s Secret Agent Color Corrector ($13) to even out tone around the nose, cheeks, and under the eyes. For deep, lasting moisture, she applied Bubble Skincare’s Slam Dunk Hydrating Moisturizer ($16) and Cosmic Silk Hydrating Milky Toner ($16) for a luminous, dewy finish that makes the skin look and feel fully hydrated. In fact, Cosmic Silk pulled triple duty: McCarty also mixed it with a highlighter gel “along the cheekbones to catch the light” and on Meester’s chest and arms “creating a full body glow that tied it all together.”
