Skin care isn’t part of the med school curriculum, but it’s a key part of the equation when plastic surgeons treat patients. You can surgically tighten the skin, but a scalpel and sutures can’t change someone’s skin quality. A facelift will make lax areas appear smoother and more taut, but sun damage and skin texture (dryness, roughness, etc.) will not be improved. Hence, the importance of good skin-care products in a consistent routine, but also especially after facelifts and necklifts. Here, leading board-certified plastic surgeons across the country share their favorite new products of the year so far, from an exosome-infused eye serum to a drugstore retinol cream.

Plastic Surgeons’ Favorite New Skin-Care Products

Avène Retrinal 0.1% Intensive Multi-Corrective Cream ($68)

“In my opinion, Avène offers ‘the best’ entry-level skin care by far. It has a whole range of products that are effective and very reasonable priced. Coming out of Europe, the products tend to be much cleaner—fewer chemicals and additives; fragrance-free, soap-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free—than we see from North American brands. This updated retinol has proven clinical results that far exceed those seen with products more than twice the cost.” —Tucson, AZ plastic surgeon Raman Mahabir, MD

Laneige Water Bank Gentle Gel Cleanser ($29)

“What makes this product stand out is how it cleanses thoroughly without stripping the skin—something rare even among high-end cleansers. It balances skin’s pH, hydrates with hyaluronic acid, and leaves your face feeling soft and fresh, not tight or dry. It’s ideal if you want a cleanser that’s both gentle and effective, especially for sensitive or dehydrated skin.” —Beverly Hills, CA facial plastic surgeon Kimberly J. Lee, MD

ZO Skin Health Soothing Hydro Mist ($68)

“My favorite new product in 2025 is this Soothing Mist. It is a 10/10 and one of our top sellers since we got it on the shelves. Patients love how it’s an on-the-go product that they can take with them and use throughout the day. It’s also great for use immediately after ablative lasers and microneedling! This product is proven to visibly calm redness by 68 percent, soothes and calms the skin throughout the day, and keeps the skin hydrated. This travel-friendly product is game-changing for acne and rosacea patients, and can be used immediately post-procedure! We love it!” —Nashville, TN plastic surgeon Daniel A. Hatef, MD

“Patients are loving this new face mist, especially here in the desert, but it is a great product for calming redness wherever you live.” —Tucson, AZ plastic surgeon Raman Mahabir, MD

Plated Skin Science EYE Serum ($138)

“My favorite product of 2025 is this new serum that combines exosome technology from platelets in a package designed to improve under-eye skin and dark circles. Exosomes are little packets of information that can absorb through the skin, in effect translating changes into the skin in these areas to improve skin quality. Plated is a product that takes advantage of the healing and rejuvenating pathways activated by platelets in order to improve skin in the absence of an injury.” —Beverly Hills, CA plastic surgeon Daniel Gould, MD

skinbetter science Even Intensive Skin Tone Correcting Serum ($190)

“I see a lot of patients in the Bay Area with pigmentation issues, which requires a comprehensive and multimodal approach to find solutions for each unique patient. I like this serum because it’s great for evening out skin tones, and its gentle formula doesn’t irritate the skin.” —San Francisco facial plastic surgeon Raj Dedhia, MD

It delivers intensive hydration and brightening, making it a good choice for improving overall skin tone and texture.” —Beverly Hills, CA facial plastic surgeon Kimberly J. Lee, MD

Augustinus Bader The Elixir ($550)

“Exosomes are all the rage and the next big thing in skin care. Personally, I am not a fan of human or animal exosomes—I just cannot come around to the idea that putting someone else’s growth factors on your face is a good thing. Luckily, there are plant-based exosomes that are as effective, if not better with none of the concern of human contaminants. This serum visibly improves fine lines and wrinkles with both immediate and long-term results.” —Tucson, AZ plastic surgeon Raman Mahabir, MD

La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift ($530)

“LaPrairie just updated its amazing Skin Caviar Liquid Lift.  Most skin-care products are mixed and oxidizing or degrading from the moment they are put in the bottle. Skin Caviar’s beads are emulsified with each press of the activation button for absolute maximum effectiveness. Users will see instant lift in less than 15 minutes. Used regularly, the skin contours are redefined, minimizing wrinkles and fine lines. It’s plumping and firming with both instant and long-term results.” —Tucson, AZ plastic surgeon Raman Mahabir, MD
