Made in Canada (the brand has a skin-care clinic in Alberta), Revoderm Pharma launched in the U.S. late last year, and offers high-performance skin-care products combining dermatology and science. Created by Canadian board-certified dermatologist Dr. Ken Alanen and skin-care expert Ildiko Juhasz, who is also the brand’s clinical director, the brand focuses on strengthening the skin microbiome, softening signs of aging and providing post-procedure solutions. My favorite product from the collection is the HA + Prebiotics Serum ($69), which is so much more than just a hydrating serum. Here’s my honest review.
The Benefits of This Multitasking Serum
A staple in my skin-care routine? Hydration. Healthy, hydrated skin always looks better, and younger. When skin is dry, fine lines and rough skin texture are accentuated, but when you apply serums and creams with ingredients like hyaluronic and glycerin, you get that bouncy, plumping effect, even if it’s just temporary. This particular serum features both of those key ingredients, but goes a step further by combining different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate for deeper hydration and a longer-lasting plumping effect. Ultimately, fine lines look softened and skin looks more youthful.
It also addresses the skin’s microbiome, which is the foundation for everything, essentially. When the skin’s microbiome is out of whack, you’ll see it in the form of blotchiness, dull skin, breakouts, dryness and more. This serum contains prebiotics to keep everything balanced and support a healthy skin barrier. It’s also fragrance-free, making it a great option for those who have sensitive skin, even eczema and rosacea.
And lastly, another staple in my skin-care routine is antioxidants, and this formula contains several. Venuceane is a heat-activated antioxidant that’s designed to protect skin against environmental and photo damage when exposed to UV rays and heat. This is combined with other antioxidants for even more protection, including green tea extract and soy bean extract.
How to Use It
Apply the serum morning and night after cleansing and toning, and before moisturizer and sunscreen. Pump a few drops onto your fingertips and apply to your face and neck area (you can also apply tap it around your eyes—the upper and lower eyelid—in place of eye cream). The texture is light but moisturizing on my dry skin, and I like the dropper applicator, which lets me dispense only a bit at a time rather than overdoing it. If you have oily skin, you might even be able to skip moisturizer and just use this.
It’s also a great product to use after in-office treatments like lasers and radio-frequency microneedling (Morpheus8, Profound, etc.). Once the initial healing phase has passed—usually after three or four days)—the serum can be used to effectively draw moisture into skin, calm redness and heat with soothing peptides, and reset skin’s pH balance. “Post-procedure skin care is not optional—it’s a fundamental part of the treatment process,” said Ildikó Juhasz, cofounder of Revoderm Pharma. “The right products can speed up recovery, reduce downtime, and prevent avoidable complications like breakouts or scarring.”
