This Laser Treatment Was the Glow-Up My 47-Year-Old Skin Needed

As a beauty editor, I’ve tried all the treatments. I know what’s trending, what works and what’s just noise. So, when I walked into Von & Co Medical Aesthetics Studio in Naples, FL, I had a few ideas about what my skin needed. But what I got was so much better.

At 47, my skin has seen some things—sun, stress and now the hormonal shifts that come with perimenopause. I’ve noticed more dullness, melasma that flares up no matter how careful I am with SPF and that kind of lackluster look to my skin that no amount of serum can fix. I booked my consultation assuming I’d walk out with one laser treatment or peel recommendation. Instead, I walked out with a completely customized plan, combining two popular treatments, and my skin hasn’t looked this good in years.

My Skin Age:

The consultation started with a VISIA skin analysis. If you’ve never done one, imagine a brutally honest selfie that tells you everything happening beneath the surface. Texture, brown spots, wrinkles, it’s all there. My “skin age” was revealed as being in the 30s, which gave me clarity. My skin is great, but from my perspective it could use some help in the pigment department.

That’s when I met with Naples, FL dermatologist Brandon Kirsch, MD, medical director of Von & Co Aesthetics. “Combination treatments are often where we see the best results,” Kirsch said. “Because the skin ages in multiple ways, it makes sense to approach it with multiple strategies.”

What Is a “Better Together” Treatment?

Dr. Kirsch and the Von & Co Aesthetics team recommended “Better Together,” a customized pairing of BBL (BroadBand Light) and Moxi laser. If you’ve read up on either, you know they’re both noninvasive powerhouses. BBL targets pigmentation and redness by delivering pulses of light to the skin, helping fade sun damage and discoloration. Moxi, on the other hand, is a fractionated laser that creates micro-injuries to stimulate collagen and resurface texture.

Used together, they’re a dream team. BBL clears the visible damage, while Moxi goes deeper to refresh and rebuild. And because they’re both gentle, they can be done in the same session with minimal downtime. “They complement each other beautifully,” Dr. Kirsch explained. “BBL works like a reset button for the surface and Moxi sets the stage for long-term improvement.”

The Experience:

I have very reactive skin, but the treatment was quick, painless and the redness afterward was temporary.

The treatment itself was quick and surprisingly tolerable. The BBL felt like little snaps of warmth across my cheeks and forehead. Moxi came next, and while I wouldn’t call it relaxing, it wasn’t painful, just a light, prickly heat as the laser moved across my face. The entire appointment was less than an hour.

Afterward, my skin felt warm and looked a little flushed, like I’d had a solid workout. Over the next few days, I had some dryness and what’s often described as a “sandpaper” texture, which is normal. I wore sunscreen religiously, followed my post-treatment skin care and didn’t need any downtime beyond swapping foundation for tinted SPF.

My Results:

This was the best treatment combination in terms of payoff and I saw much brighter, healthier-looking skin in just a few days. But even weeks later, I had the most even, glowy skin.

By day five, my skin looked smoother. The dark patches on my cheeks had started to fade. A week later, I noticed something else: radiance. That “lit-from-within” look that’s hard to fake with makeup. Friends asked if I’d changed my routine. I hadn’t, I just had better skin.

Several weeks post-treatment my glow continued to improve. My dark spots were lighter, my skin tone more even and that “blah” look I couldn’t shake was lifted. I’ve had great treatments before, but this combo is one I’d recommend to anyone in their 30s and beyond, especially if you’re seeing the signs of hormonal skin changes or sun damage that has finally caught up with you.
